After seeing Urinetown at the St James Theatre, it was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to see the show again after it's transfer to the Apollo Theatre. [You can read my previous review of Urinetown here] The majority of the cast returned for the transfer, with only some minor replacements here and there. Richard Fleeshman, who had played Bobby at the St James, has been replaced by former ensemble member, Matthew Seadon-Young, who stepped into the shoes of the lead character with complete ease. These two actors are incomparable and I thoroughly enjoyed both of their interpretations of the character. I continued to be immensely impressed by Jonathan Slinger, who portrays the narrator-style cop character. He knows how to create an intensely gripping stage presence and is a highlight of the show in general. There were some slight changes to the show from it's time at the St James, one of which being Bobby now had glasses and also there is now a projection video at the beginning of the show. In terms of the set, nothing really had changed, which I was incredibly happy with. The set for this show is spectacular and really has a gritty and dirty feel about it, which I love. There's not really much to say about this show which hasn't already been said in my previous review (which you can read in the link above). I will say this though, I truly believe that Urinetown brings a new dimension to the West End. It's a one-of-a-kind show and it's nice to watch an original production that hasn't been adapted from a movie or book. We need more musicals like this. __________________________________________________________________ Rating: ★★★★★ Comment: You must see this musical! Have you seen Urinetown? Do you agree or disagree with any of the points I have made? If so, I'd love to here from you so send me a message and let me know which production you saw! |
