Cinderella (2013)Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the incredible work done by costume designer, William Ivey Long, for this production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. My mind was completely blown at the dazzling quick on-stage costume changes in this show. They are seriously stunning. Performances by Laura 'Literal Angel' Osnes and Santino 'Herman' Fontana are equally as amazing. Both have some of the most gorgeous vocals I have ever heard in my entire life. Aladdin (2014)I was almost reluctant to include this one, but then I remembered how much I love James Monroe Iglehart and had to put it on the list. I feel like what makes Aladdin great is the Genie and James has enough sass and pizzazz within him to completely own this role. Also, as I mentioned before, tap dancing is my everything so you can probably tell why I enjoyed this so much. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder (2014)I was lucky enough to see this show on Broadway back in July 2014, and it was this Tony Awards performance that made me want to go see it. The show is a comedy about a serial killer - two things that shouldn't work together, but they somehow do. I can't get over how well this scene in particular is staged. The show is hilarious, and the four main actors are incredible in their respective roles. Especially Jefferson Mays. Something Rotten (2015)This is the ultimate theatre nerd anthem. Can we take a moment to appreciate how many musical and Shakespeare references they managed to fit into, not only this performance, but the entire show. It's insane! Tap dancing, jazz hands, Brian d'Arcy James...this performance is everything I have ever wanted out of a Tony performance, and so much more. It is no wonder that this number once got a standing ovation mid-show. | Newsies (2012)These newsboys are a force to be reckoned with so Pulitzer better watch out! (And they're so damn flexible). The choreography is the main thing that made Newsies as great as is it and I'm so happy they chose a number that really showcased that at the Tony Awards. I couldn't think of anyone who deserved the Best Choreography award that year more than Christopher Gattelli. I also cannot talk about Newsies without mentioning how wonderful Jeremy Jordan is, as both an actor and a vocalist. P.S. Ryan Steele's pirouettes are pure perfection. Kiss LA Goodbye (2013)When this happened it is safe to say that every theatre person lost their shizzle. They put Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells, Megan Hilty and Laura Benanti in one performance and we all just could not contain our excitement. NPH and Andrew Rannells bounce off each other so well, and Laura Benanti never fails to make me laugh. Theatre > Television. Bullets Over Broadway (2014)If you know me at all you will know that jukebox musicals are one of my least favourite things. But I have a soft spot for Bullets Over Broadway. I think the music for this show was selected incredibly well and orchestrated sublimely. The gruffness in Nick Cordero's vocals are also insane and he couldn't have been better cast. Again, I'm going to mention the tap dancing, but this isn't just any tap dancing, this is TAP DANCING GANGSTERS which makes it one hundred times better than any other tap dancing. Fun Home (2015)In a world where representation of gay female characters in fiction is rare, Fun Home . The character of Alison is played by three characters at the different stages of her life. In the video we see Small Alison admiring and identifying with another gay woman as she comes to terms with her sexual identity. It's a beautiful song and a beautiful show. Sydney Lucas, for such a young actress, really understands her character and gives an incredible performance. |

This list was insanely hard to combine as there have been so many great performances over the past few years. I purposefully missed out any opening song performances as it was too hard to pick which of NPH's opening songs was the best. I love them all too much!
If anyone has any personal favourites that I missed from my list, let me know because I would love to find out what other people have enjoyed from the past few years. Good luck to all the Tony nominees tonight and I cannot wait to see some of the stunning performances from the 2015-16 season.
